Apremont
The beautiful village of Apremont is only a short drive from site and boasts a gorgeous lake for swimming, as well as boats to hire. Explore the castle, tower and picturesque village scenery (see first picture above).
Sporting activities
If more sedate activities appeal to you, local golf courses can be found at Les Fontenelles and St Jean de Monts. There are also numerous places to fish – with a valid licence – in the nearby area, including the River Vie which runs along the bottom of the park.
Surfing is popular in St Gilles and there are at least two local surf schools which can be found on the sea front.
Beaches
Whilst the beach at St Gilles is beautiful, there are countless other local beaches to visit if you fancy a change of scenery. Why not go rockpooling at Sion sur l’Ocean or Bretignolles-sur-Mer or visit St Hilaire de Riez to view the impressive blowhole in the cliff called ‘The Devil’s Hole’.
Water parks
There are three water parks locally, all within an hour’s drive:
Parc des Dunes offers water slides and other attractions such as mini golf and pedalos.
Oceanile includes a wave slide, an indoor pool and various different slides for all ages.
Atlantic toboggan provides a massive variety of slides for thrill seekers (see second picture above).
Vélorail
Located in the local village of Commequiers, the Vélorail offers a unique view of the French countryside on a pedal-driven rail cart (see third picture above).
Salt marshes
Take a boat trip through the salt marshes around Les Sables d’Olonne or Noirmoutier and learn about traditional salt production techniques.
For more information on things to do in the area, please feel free to ask our Reception team on site (see fourth picture above).
