St Gilles, and the beaches

With vast sandy beaches, a wide variety of restaurants and local markets, St Gilles is the place that every LPO guest will surely want to visit first.

Beaches

Signposted as soon as you reach St Gilles, the Grande Plage is a must-visit. This sandy beach stretches 3.5km, offering fantastic coastal walks and beautiful scenery. If you prefer something more active, there are a number of surf schools offering lessons, as well as opportunities for windsurfing. After a long day, the promenade boasts an array of restaurants, bars and seaside shops overlooking the sea – perfect for a relaxing evening.

There are also a number of other beaches within a short drive of Le Pas Opton.

Markets

If you want to experience a little French culture, there is a daytime market selling fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and crafts twice a week. During high season, there is also a captivating night market selling crafts and jewellery. Local bars also put on live music, creating a great atmosphere.

Restaurants and bars

The town has many restaurants and bars to suit all budgets and tastes, from traditional French cuisine to pizza and chips. Our staff are happy to recommend somewhere for you to dine and to assist in making reservations.

Shopping

The town has two large supermarkets – Leclerc and SuperU – on the outskirts of town, as well as pedestrianised shopping with independent shops on the opposite side of the river.

Entertainment

The town has a cinema that shows lots of the most popular and current films, as well as some French cinema. Many English films are shown in English with French subtitles. Just look for ‘VO’ (Version Originale) next to the film’s name.
